Every time the B.C. Liberals chalk up another gaffe or scandal, I'm increasingly reminded of the events of 1991, which permanently altered the political landscape in this province. And I have to wonder whether we're about to see history repeated.

Dear Editor: I live at Sixth Street and Seventh Avenue in an upper floor suite overlooking Sixth Street. As others in the area know, on many a night we hear our fair share of sirens, drunkards and skateboarders.

It's not new. The plotting to find out how best to lure voters of any single persuasion to join, or at least support, one political party over another.

Dear Editor: Re: City looks at 2.9 per cent tax increase, The Record, Feb. 27. City council, despite opposition from Coun. McIntosh, plans to increase taxes by about 2.9 per cent in the coming year.

Dear Editor: Re: Chief Skugaid cut adrift by Larco, The Record, Feb. 22. Having the Chief Skukaid on our waterfront has reminded me of the iconic maritime history of New Westminster. David Cobb, the captain, is a living piece of that history.

We see a police officer bit by an unruly night club patron. TransLink proudly proclaimed in a recent press release the incidence of bus drivers getting beat up has declined "significantly" in past months - and yet the numbers remain appalling.

Canadian governments spend around $45,000 annually per retiree and just $12,000 per citizen under age 45.

I read with interest the Records report that City Council (despite opposition from Councilor McIntosh) plans to increase taxes by about 2.9% in the coming year.
