Dear Editor: I strongly agree that it would be nice if all smokers were required to confine their smoking only to those areas where non-smokers wouldn't have to breath in their second-hand smoke.

When the NDP recently revealed the B.C. Liberals' plan to sway ethnic votes in key ridings, many wondered if the cynical plot line would be tied directly to Premier Christy Clark.

A protest rally this past weekend served as another reminder that a whole bunch of New Democratic Party supporters are in for a rude awakening if their political party wins the May election.

City hall is pulling out the spreadsheets, poring over staff benefit plans, calculating how much revenue it can squeeze out of the dusty corners in the bylaw department.

Dear Editor: Re: When is enough enough?, Letters, The Record, March 6. I completely agree with the content of Mr. Eady's letter regarding the 2.9 per cent tax increase, and I would like to take his point one step further.

Dear Editor: Re: City wants stats to see if residents are right, The Record, March 8. There is absolutely no doubt that traffic has increased on the Pattullo Bridge since the new Port Mann went into business, especially during the afternoon rush.

Dear Editor: Much has been written lately about poverty, including lots of statistics, rational arguments, consternation and, with our recession and a probable further economic bubble or slowdown, it's going to get worse.

Knock, knock. Who's there? It's the federal government. Unfortunately, that line has struck a number of people as less than funny, after the feds sent workers to the homes of Employment Insurance claimants to check on them.

Although Canadians may disagree about a lot of things, most share a common aspiration to look after aging family members and give a good start to younger ones.

Every time the B.C. Liberals chalk up another gaffe or scandal, I'm increasingly reminded of the events of 1991, which permanently altered the political landscape in this province. And I have to wonder whether we're about to see history repeated.
