Last week, the federal Conservatives moved in a direction Canadians have yet to see them go - backwards. The government announced it would kill its much-reviled Bill C-30, better known as the Internet surveillance bill.

It seems to be very fashionable these days for folks to be opposed to all kinds of things, from pipelines to coal exports to extracting natural gas.

Dear Editor: Re: Support Clark in leading B.C., Letters, The Record, Feb. 8. I'm afraid that politics in B.C. tends to be a little deeper and a little messier than Diane Walters makes it out to be.

We don't normally expect a lot from any throne speech that timing dictates must be a key piece of a pre-election gambit. Fortunately, it means we are rarely disappointed.

High school has been a roller-coaster ride of exhilarating highs, and rock-bottom lows. It's been the beginning of self-discovery and the end of childhood. Everything is new and unexplored during the first year of high school.

Dear Editor: Re: City ponders future for aging pool, The Record, Feb. 1. Regrettably, this feedback is a bit late, but I thought I would send it anyway, regarding the possible impact on the Canada Games Pool after the Burnaby facility is opened.

Is it any wonder that according to a poll this week conducted by Canadian Press/Harris Decima, 32 per cent of respondents felt the Senate should be abolished. Another one-third felt the Senate should become an elected body.
