Big news from our friends just south of the border as Washington state will require people to wear facial coverings in public settings, under a statewide public health order announced by Gov. Jay Inslee due to COVID-19.

The Editor: I received some sad news over the weekend that my friend Greg Winlaw passed away earlier this month. I'm upset with myself because the last time I saw Greg was three years ago on his 53rd birthday.

Editor: Re: Burnaby transit riders ignoring mask request in large numbers , NOW opinion I enjoyed your article about riders ignoring TransLink’s requests to wear masks. I agree that this is the case.

“You never want to let a serious crisis go to waste.” That’s what Rahm Emanuel, chief of staff to then-incoming U.S. President Barack Obama, once said during the 2008 recession. A crisis allows an opportunity to do things not thought possible before.

Canada needs a wealth tax on the super-rich to rein in extreme inequality and contribute to crucial public investments in the wake of COVID-19.

Editor: Having read a couple of recent letters to the editor regarding noise issues in New Westminster, I thought that I would add my two cents’ worth.

This is my personal way, one person’s way. You may have a different approach and I respect it. First, I recognize that discrimination has existed since the beginning of humans on Earth. It exists in every country.
