Re: New West city councillor concerned over 'fearful' police communications
So Councillor Nadine Nakagawa has decided NWPD Is guilty of fear mongering.
Coun. Nakagawa revealed that she has pored over all NWPD media announcements for the past four years. She has concluded that reports of crime, violent crime and missing persons have escalated over the past two years.
Coun. Nakagawa described NWPD’S announcements as "fearful and deeply troubling." She doesn’t think they are "helpful" to the community. She then intimated that the surge in NWPD media announcements was "political."
Is Coun. Nakagawa suggesting NWPD be censored? Is she suggesting New West residents are safer in a Pollyanna La-La Land where they are spoon-fed only the "feel-good"’ news?
Over the past two years, crime has escalated in New West. Crime and violent crime has become commonplace. Several times a week, major B.C. media platforms are reporting on serious and often violent crimes happening here in New West.
Coun. Nakagawa’s passive-aggressive hostility towards NWPD was palpable at the most recent joint police board/New West council meeting. Her unrelenting efforts to shrink the NWPD budget are well known.
We have a great police department here in New West. Good women and men who put themselves on the line everyday. NWPD members care about our city and its residents, including our most vulnerable.
Keep sending out those media communications, NWPD. Knowledge is power.
Coun. Nakagawa wants residents to "feel" safe. I want residents to be safe.
Thank you for all you do, NWPD.
