Letter: Burying our heads in the sand won't make New West crime go away

NWPD press releases are "absolutely necessary" to keep New Westminster residents informed, this writer says.

The Editor:

I am a bit confused here reading about New Westminster city councillor Nadine Nakagawa's concerns in regard to police press releases about violent crime in our city.

The press releases are absolutely necessary to keep New Westminster citizens apprised of the neverending criminal activity the police deal with day to day, and to let us know what areas of the city have the highest violent crime rates, in order for us to try to steer clear of these areas.

Burying our heads in the sand won't make crime go away, but being made aware of the problem will help serve to keep us on our toes, and steer clear of crime-ridden areas of the city.

Unfortunately we aren't in Kansas anymore, and haven't been for quite some time now!
