Letter: 'Whining' about property taxes goes against the spirit of New Westminster

Anyone who can afford a home should pay their fair share

If you can afford a home in New Westminster, you should pay your fair share in property taxes to benefit everyone, says this writer.

It's disheartening to see homeowners of this fine city whining about rising property taxes; one Record letter writer suggested cutting back both civic services and pay for civic workers.

Anyone who can afford a home needs to pay their fair share for the benefit of everyone. Punishing the workers and depriving the city of services so these lucky few can save a few dollars in tax is selfish. It also goes against the unique community spirit that binds together New Westminster, a city not just for the privileged but for the renters, the disabled, the poor – for all of us.
