Parents interested in registering their children for programs of choice (French immersion, Montessori) or the Hume Park Home Learners program can attend virtual information sessions hosted by the New Westminster School District Jan. 12, 13 and 14.

The New Westminster school district is hosting information nights via MS Teams in advance of the application window, which opens Jan. 18.

A session about French immersion is set for Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a session about Montessori programs on Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Early French immersion programs are offered at Herbert Spencer, Qayqayt and Lord Tweedsmuir schools, based on catchment. Late French immersion is offered at Glenbrook Middle School.

Montessori programs are offered at Connaught Heights and Richard McBride elementary schools, also based on catchment.

Catchments for programs of choice differ from regular school enrolment; catchment maps for Early French immersion and Montessori can be found at the school district’s website.

Registration for programs of choice is by application, and spaces are limited. Priority is given to siblings of those already enrolled in the programs, with available spaces chosen by randomized draw.

Applications open Monday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. and close on Friday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.

Parents who are interested in pursuing home learning can also check out an information night about the Hume Park Home Learners program. That session is on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Registration for the Home Learners program also opens Jan. 18 and closes Feb. 12.
