Returning to RiverFest again this year will be *click* photos of the fraser, which aims to bring together an assortment of perspectives of the Fraser River, from the Rocky Mountains to the Salish Sea.

"For a number of years," says Stephen Bruyneel, Interim-Executive Director of the Fraser River Discovery Centre, "we've picked a theme and asked people to take a photograph of the Fraser River based on that theme."

Photographers are encouraged to be creative with their interpretation in each of the following categories: The River at Work (industry), The River Wild (environment), The River’s People (culture) and People’s Choice (based on votes from the public online).

Each year a new selection of photographs is unveiled with a juried, themed photograph exhibit on a specific theme.  For 2016 the theme is ‘Time’.

“Every year we brainstorm with staff about what the theme should be, trying to find a topic that will be broad enough encompass all aspects of the mighty Fraser,” added Stephen. “As a result, *click* photos of the fraser always generates interest from a wide range of amateur and professional photographers. And we look forward to seeing what they have come up with this year!”

Also headlining the evening is the opening of the Living, Working River Art Exhibition, a collection of juried pieces from eight local artists, presented by the Arts Council of New Westminster.

“This is another “first time” event for us and means that attendees will get an additional dose of Fraser River-based culture,” says Stephen. “We are also pleased to offer a selection of wines from Mt. Lehman Winery in the Fraser Valley and an assortment of First Nations appetizers from Salishan Catering during the evening.”

The Fraser River Discovery Centre’s RiverFest is Metro Vancouver’s biggest celebration of the environmental, economic and socio-cultural importance of the Fraser River.  With an annual attendance of 10,000, RiverFest is a wonderful week of lively music, engaging activities, informative presentations, delicious foods, and beautiful art. It is free to attend and has something for the whole family.
