Editor: Experts and scientists around the world are saying that this pandemic has been made possible due to global warming. They also say that more pandemics are likely if we continue to pump megatonnes of carbon into the atmosphere.

Due to the pandemic, we are seeing governments all over the world introducing financial and healthcare packages for their citizens.

As some provinces in Canada are beginning to show progress in flattening the curve , the next logical challenge is mitigating the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, while preparing for Canada’s economic recovery.

Without a doubt, we are living in an extraordinary time, and I am encouraged to see how we as a collective community are coming together to support each other through the unprecedented challenges presented by COVID-19.

Dear New Westminster Record readers: New Westminster is a far different than it was just a few short weeks ago. Things have been moving at a frantic pace and we’ve all had to make radical adjustments to our lives, livelihoods and priorities.

The pandemic has brought an outpouring of community support, major employment changes and a whopping pay hike in the long-term-care sector. It was a focus right from the start because of the impact the virus had on seniors.

We’re at the finger-pointing stage of the pandemic now. That’s the part where we demand to know why our leaders A) didn’t see this coming, or B) saw it coming but failed to react quickly or decisively enough to head it off.

We are all living in a period of high anxiety, distress and uncertainty as COVID-19 has upended our lives.

B.C. is not only faring better than most other provinces in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s also ahead when it comes to a key public health action.

The Editor, Food banks became a reality when I was a teenager growing up in Coquitlam in the early 80s. My family had to rely on the food bank and it is one of the reasons why, whenever I get a chance, I give back to them.
