There’s no doubt the Douglas College Royals women’s volleyball team entered the 2016-17 seaosn with high expectations.

It’s fair to say the turf at BC Place on Saturday will not be treaded lightly upon. When the New Westminster Hyacks and Abbotsford Panthers lineup for their B.C. High School AAA football quarterfinal battle on Saturday (5:30 p.m.

Mercer Stadium has at least one more high school football game to host in 2016 – and its a big one for the host New Westminster junior Hyacks. The Hyacks match up against the Vancouver Fighting Irish today (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m.

For many 10-year-olds, the prime focus after school is their X-box. For Royal City Track and Field’s Max Holmes, it’s X-country.

A bronze was not what they were aiming for, but upon closer inspection it was definitely something worth celebrating.

Thankfully, tomorrow is another day. It’s good advice in presidential elections as it is in high school football – at least for those football teams that made the playoffs.

After a loss in the first week, the Douglas College women’s basketball team cleaned the slate. They also cleaned up in rebounds en route to a pair of wins in PacWest League action.

An offensive line led by David Bastos, Karrson MacCuaig and Liam Noakes set the tone in the Royal City Hyacks’ 25-0 win over the GSL Lions in peewee football.

The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger sang it, but the Douglas College Royals lived it on Saturday.

The New Westminster Hyacks are captains of their own fate – to a point.
