A new executive director will soon be taking the helm of the Downtown New West Business Improvement Association.

The BIA has announced the appointment of Angelene Prakash as its new executive director. She will assume her new role on Feb. 1.

“Angelene has been with the organization in the role of membership engagement and events manager since 2021 and has a proven track record of building strong and trusting relationships with members, community, and civic partners,” said BIA board president Alice Cavanagh. “We look forward to her expanding her role at the organization.”

Under Prakash’s leadership, the Downtown New Westminster Business Improvement Association is anticipating an increased focus on member engagement and a refreshed marketing plan. It’s also planning on establishing structures to support future growth and expansion of programs.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to assume the role of executive director at the Downtown New West BIA,” Prakash said in a news release. “Guided by a profound commitment to our mission, and inspired by the vibrant business community, I am eager to lead our dedicated team and board in making a lasting impact to New Westminster and its downtown.”

Kara-Leigh Bloc has been serving as interim executive director and providing temporary leadership and organizational assessment for the BIA.

Kendra Johnston had previously served as the organization’s executive director from November 2011 until January 2023.

Established in 1989, the BIA is a not-for-profit association that serves 500 member businesses and 150 property owners.
