Wild Blue Herons are among the performers at upcoming instalments of Jazz at the Anvil.

The popular Jazz at the Anvil series continues in January – after finishing 2023 with a sold-out.

Piva Modern Italian hosts the monthly Jazz at the Anvil shows. The Dec. 20 show, featuring Angela Kelman and Tom Keenlyside, has sold out.

“It’s a testament to how much locals love live music,” Ria Renouf, community engagement specialist at Piva Modern Italian, said in a news release. “What’s more, we get to have Tom Keenlyside on stage – an absolute honour and delight for us.”

Keenlyside, a New Westminster-based and Juno-award winning jazz musician, is a life-long musician who plays the saxophone and the flute. His resume includes collaborations with artists and groups like Diana Krall, K-OS, Aerosmith, Jon Bon Jovi, and the late Gord Downie.

The 2023/2024 edition of Piva Modern Italian’s Jazz at the Anvil includes three upcoming shows in 2024. All concerts start at 7 p.m. in Anvil Theatre:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 30: Wild Blue Herons (with Horns!).
  • Tuesday, Feb. 27: Time Out: A Night of Dave Brubeck, with Tom Keenlyside.
  • Tuesday, March 26: R&B Allstars.

Tickets for the January concert are already on sale.

In September 2022, Piva, in collaboration with Keenlyside, launched the music series to introduce audiences to the rich world of jazz through seven monthly concerts showcasing musical talents from New Westminster and beyond.

Proceeds from Piva Presents: Jazz at the Anvil have been used to support a variety of initiatives including the music programs at New Westminster Secondary School and Urban Academy.
