What’s happening? The Seniors Services Society is raising funds to support hungry, hurting and homeless seniors through its annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk on Saturday, Feb. 24 at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr.

1. Keep the weekend going and celebrate Family Day in New Westminster by taking in a wide range of events happening around town all day long on Monday, Feb. 12.

Is your kid interested in learning to play chess? Or perhaps they want to fine tune their skills? Connaught Heights Elementary School’s chess club meets every Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. The club is open to students in Grade 3, 4 and 5.

As we move towards the end of the first month of 2018, it might be interesting to look back to the end of a much earlier January – back 130 years to 1888 to see what was newsworthy at that time in the Royal City.
