Ghosts are returning to Fraser River Discovery Centre this weekend.

When Super Saturdays returns to FRDC this weekend, it will be focusing on one of the Fraser River’s most mysterious characters – the Fraser River white sturgeon.

“Nicknamed the Ghosts of the Fraser, white sturgeon are specially adapted to live in their watery home,” said Stephen Bruyneel, FRDC’s director, external relations and development. “Despite this, there are still a lot of challenges they must face in order to survive in the Fraser, and we’d love to tell you about them on Saturday, Feb. 27.”

Super Saturdays is a regular series of public programs at Fraser River Discovery Centre that celebrate the living, working Fraser River. This weekend’s activities will include: checking out real sturgeon specimens; learning how the white sturgeon is so well-adapted for survival in the murky waters of the Fraser River; viewing specimen jars of baby sturgeon at different stages of their life cycle; and playing FRDC’s sturgeon survival board game.

“There will be fun for the whole family, so come on down and join us,” Bruyneel said in a news release. “And don’t worry – it will also be safe, as all activities are consistent with our COVID health and safety plan, including the need to pre-register, limited numbers, timed visits, social distancing and frequent cleaning.”

Super Saturday, taking place on the last Saturday of every month, is a series of public programs geared toward family-friendly activities, all focused on a different Fraser River topic each month. Super Saturdays are free with admission to the galleries, but pre-registration is required.
