The Group of Five and Friends are hoping to make a little holiday magic in support of Royal Columbian Hospital.

The New West-based group is holding its Let’s Make Holiday Magic Together on Friday, Nov. 17. It includes raffle tables filled with items perfect for gift-giving, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a chance to socialize with other community members.

“The silent auction table is filled with very affordable merchandise,” said Gerda Suess of the Group of the Five. “We are going to have a very wonderful silent auction.”

The Group of Five and Friends Benevolent Society, founded in 2004, holds fundraiser to buy a wide range of equipment for various departments in the Royal Columbian Hospital, including the emergency department, operating rooms and the pediatric until.

“They are supporting our hospital,” Suess said of the fundraisers. “All of us have to go to the hospital one day.”

The Group of Five consults with the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation about the items that are needed by the hospital, Suess said.

This year’s event is raising money for the purchase of one or more special wheelchairs that can be used by patients following surgery.

The Group of Five’s fundraiser is on Friday, Nov. 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park. Tickets are $40; they’re available at the door or by calling 604- 522-7196 or 604-537-8975.
