With September just around the corener, election action will soon kick into high gear. New Westminster will residents will have a few chances to check out local candidates in action come fall.

Are you planning on running for mayor or city council? If so, the Record would like to hear from you. To date, incumbent Mayor Jonathan Cote is the only candidate who has announced plans to run for mayor.

Jonathan Cote is seeking input from residents and businesses on topics like housing, transportation, public amenities and the local economy.

The New West Progressives believe more work needs to be done to strengthen the local economy.

The Arts Council of New Westminster is working to make the arts a key part of the fall municipal election campaign. The arts council is hosting two all-candidates meetings, with a focus on the arts, at Centennial Lodge in September.

The New Westminster and District Labour Council expects to endorse a full slate of candidates for New Westminster’s city council and school board.
