Overnight rain — including thunder and lightning — helped to wash away poor air in New Westminster.

Metro Vancouver has cancelled the air quality advisory that had been in effect for New West and the rest of Metro Vancouver since Aug. 25. The advisory stemmed from high levels of fine particulate matter caused by wildfire smoke from B.C. and Washington State.

The cancellation notice was issued shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

As of now, Metro Vancouver’s Air Map shows New Westminster’s air quality health index at a 3, or low risk.

It’s currently 16 C and overcast in New Westminster, with more rain expected this afternoon, according to the Weatherhood local forecast.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Aug. 30) calls for a high of 18 C, with a possible 2 mm of rain, and a high of 17 C and a possible 4 mm of rain on Thursday.

You can keep an eye on current local conditions at the AirMap website and at the Weatherhood local site.
