The Royal City Hyacks had a winning weekend at the third spring flag football jamboree of the Vancouver Mainland Football League season.

The two under-16 New Westminster club teams posted three wins at the event held at Mercer Stadium last Saturday.

The u-16 team coached by Brandon Braich went 3-1 behind the solid quarterbacking of Mackenzie Ratcliffe. Cornerbacks Adrian and Brian Cagampan were keys in the defensive secondary for the Hyacks, both with interceptions.

Brent Fletcher's u-16 team had a 3-2 record.

Jamie Shiho and Jeff Lugtu, who both played on the Hyacks junior bantam team that went undefeated last season, were standouts on Fletcher's squad.

New Westminster also fielded teams in the u-10, u-12 and u-14 age divisions.

The format is five-a-side with all players as eligible receivers, played on a small field 25 yards wide and 50 yards long.
