Look up, in the sky -- its a bird, its a plane.... No, it's the New Westminster Hyacks' Homecoming Game skydivers making their grand entrance -- come rain or shine this Friday.

The defending B.C. High School AAA varsity football champions pull out all the stops for a festive evening of fun, fanfare and football at Mercer Stadium, starting at 4 p.m.

The annual event, which includes the senior Hyacks taking on the Abbotsford Panthers in the 7:30 p.m. league game, will be celebrating the team's provincial achievement last season, while setting the tone for this year's run.

Already 1-0 in league play after beating Carson Graham last week, New West will look to give local gridiron fans more to cheer about, while lining up against a strong opponent.

"We wanted to make sure we scheduled a good opponent for our Homecoming Game," remarked New West head coach Farhan Lalji. "(Abbotsford) is a very different type of team (from Carson Graham) and has a very different type of attack. They're very big and very physical and they run the ball well."

It's a full slate of events leading up to the kickoff, with a Hyacks Alumni flag football game at 4 p.m., a pre-game party featuring a tug-of-war, a family fun zone with visits from a variety of mascots, including Skye, Chase and Marshall of TV's Paw Patrol. At 6 p.m. is the Alumni reception and dinner, leading up to the arrival, prior to team introductions, of the skydivers, who will draw the winner of a prize car draw, presented by Key West Ford.

The club will be celebrating its first provincial title, with the traditional pomp and circumstance.

Tickets will be available at the Mercer Stadium gate.
