BCLA announces Team B.C. coaches

Six boys' and girls' coaches named for upcoming box lacrosse season

The B.C. Lacrosse Association announced its six head coaches for the midget, bantam, peewee, female junior, female midget and female bantam 2015 Team B.C. box lacrosse programs.

The 2015 Team BC - Box Lacrosse Head Coaches are:

Midget:  Trevor Smith – Delta Minor Association (Resides: Delta)

Bantam:  Jason Bishop – New Westminster Minor Association (Resides: New Westminster)

Peewee:  Daren Fridge – Ridge Meadows Minor Association (Resides: Coquitlam) 

Female Junior:  Blair Bradley – Port Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association (Resides: Coquitlam)

Female Midget:  Geordie Dean – New Westminster Minor Association (Resides: New Westminster)  

Female Bantam:  Dan Stroup – Port Coquitlam Minor Association (Resides: Port Coquitlam)

The Team B.C. lacrosse program is a high performance lacrosse program for box and field lacrosse

athletes in B.C.  The program consists of six box lacrosse squads, including midget, bantam, peewee, female junior, female bantam, female midget) and six field lacrosse squads - men’s field: under-18, u-15 and u-13 teams; and women's field: senior, sophomore and freshman teams.

These teams are selected from hundreds of athletes from across province and compete at national championship against other provincial teams. 

The women’s field lacrosse teams compete at recruiting tournaments in Washington, Florida and California.

The 2015 box lacrosse bantam nationals will take place July 21 to 26 in Saskatoon. The junior/midget/bantam female box lacrosse nationals will be held July 21 to 25 in Calgary. The midget and peewee nationals will take place August 1 to 9 in Whitby, Ont.

“The head coaches we have selected all come from rich lacrosse backgrounds and have prior experience with the Team B.C. program,” said Team B.C. technical co-ordinator Darcy Rhodes. “We are confident they will successfully take our athletes to the next step of their long-term athlete development with the hopes of capturing gold at nationals.”

“Team B.C. is proud to have such quality coaches leading our teams in 2015,” said BCLA vice-president of performance programs, Ron McQuarrie. “All are proven winners and all know what it takes to make a positive impression on young athletes.”

Team B.C. boy’s box lacrosse player application and fee deadline is Thursday, April 16 to the BCLA Office by 4 p.m. 

Team B.C. female box lacrosse player application and fee deadline is Thursday, May 7 to the BCLA Office by 4 p.m.
