Bantam boys win silver in Saskatoon

British Columbia reaped a silver medal at the Bantam Nationals boys’ lacrosse championships in Saskatoon on Saturday.

The B.C. boys, including New Westminster runners Noah Armitage, Andrew Bishop, Nikhal Dhandwar, Kip Guthrie, Evan Pattison, Ben Stewart and goalie Keegan Melenychuk, dropped a 7-2 decision to Ontario in the gold-medal final.

Earlier in the day, Mitchell Sandberg of Delta scored the 8-7 game-winning goal in overtime against Alberta to advance B.C. into the championship final.

Armitage, who led New West in goals scored, with three at the nationals, had a single assist in the semifinal win over Alberta. Guthrie also contributed a helper in the OT win.

Bishop led all New West runners in overall scoring with six points, including a goal and two assists in B.C.’s 13-1 win over Nova Scotia on July 23. Pattison also scored a goal in the win over the Maritimes province.

B.C. also won preliminary matchups against Albert and Saskatchewan, while losing to Ontario and First Nations, 6-4 in overtime, in the round robin.
