Six Fridays on Front events are scheduled for July and August.

Historic New Westminster continues to Bounce Back with a kick-off block party in Downtown New West this summer. On Front Street Mews, located within walking distance of both Columbia and New Westminster SkyTrain Stations, Fridays on Front will make its return starting on Friday, July 7.

“We are so excited to be able to bring back this beloved summer event series,” says Alice Cavanagh, president of the Downtown New West BIA. “This year’s Fridays on Front will have an extended site, so there is more room and more fun!”

Presented by Douglas College, Fridays on Front takes place on July 7, 14, and 21, as well as on August 11, 18, and 25. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., these free outdoor parties will take place in a fully licensed event site and include live music and DJs, a wide variety of delicious food options, and an area with games for kids of all ages.

“We are very pleased that there will be more food trucks and vendors this year,” says Cavanagh. And with the sitewide liquor license, she hopes the Friday time slot means folks can “come after work, grab a beverage, and enjoy fabulous music, like the Cat Murphy Band performing July 7 on the Reliance Properties Stage.” Guests can enjoy beer from Steel & Oak or a glass of Pacific Breeze Wine, and relax in a summery, all-are-welcome vibe.

The family zone, sponsored by New Westminster Family Place, will keep kids happy with fun lawn games like bean bag toss. As these Fridays are rain or shine, it’s recommended that event attendees dress according to the weather to keep all this outdoor fun going.

Each and every Fridays on Front night has its own unique fun and festive theme too, with food and entertainment that reflects those themes each week, including:

  • July 7 — Summer Kickoff
  • July 14 — East Asian Celebration
  • July 21 — Bollywood Bash
  • August 11 — Throwback Night
  • August 18 — Pride Night
  • August 25 — The Last Act

Since parking is limited, attendees should plan to take transit, walk or bike to the event. Bar tokens can also be purchased in advance, and paying by credit card is preferred.

“We invite the community to come dance, dine and mingle,” says Cavanaugh. “None of this would be possible without our event partner the City of New Westminster, our generous sponsors, and the downtown businesses we represent. We are so grateful for the community effort that goes into Fridays on Front."

This July and August, enjoy New West’s Bounce Back: The Sequel in the spirit of summer fun with your friends and family. Visit downtownnewwest.ca/Bounce-Back-The-Sequel for more information.
