Know any Latin? Probably not – it is a dead language, after all. But there’s one phrase you may have at least heard of: caveat emptor . It means, literally, “let the buyer beware.

Dear Editor, At the end of June, B.C. had reduced COVID-19 cases to about 150 active cases and about 15 new cases daily.

“Broken promises don’t upset me. I just think: ‘Why did they believe me?’ ” — Jack Handy, Deep Thoughts. “Read my lips, no new taxes,” promised George Bush the Elder in 1988, and Americans made him president.

So John Horgan has called a provincial election for Oct. 24. I’m an admirer of John and still, I hope, a friend. We had adjacent offices in government many years ago.

Editor: In regards to the recent letters written for and against hunting , I just wanted to give my two cents. Both sides had compelling arguments; however, a dark side of hunting was not one of the topics of conversation. That topic is poaching.

Dear Editor, B.C. Premier John Horgan announced he is dissolving the provincial legislature and calling an election early.

Will the apparent resentment towards the snap election come back to bite the man who caused it? That seems to be the biggest risk to NDP leader John Horgan’s bold and potentially reckless bid to form a majority government.

Editor: With active COVID cases at an all-time high in B.C., perhaps it’s time to resurrect the seven o’clock cheer for our frontline workers — students in particular.

Editor: I had to leave one of our local community social media groups this morning as there were one too many W haters commenting on a post suggesting ideas about what to do next after the devastating fire at our pier.

It is not an election the province needs. It is an election John Horgan wants. His governing NDP has no requirement for any new mandate.
