Letter: New West needs a downtown parking tower

This small business owner says clients are being discouraged by lack of parking.

More people living in downtown New West means more demand for parking, and this small business owner says lack of parking is a problem for her customers.

Editor:

I am writing about a new parking tower that would be a wise investment for downtown New West.  As a small business owner, I constantly hear about the lack of parking in our downtown.

My clients arrive very frustrated and late by the time they find parking. My fear is that many don’t return as a result. The service I provide is supposed to relieve stress, especially for those that have anxiety.

As one client has explained, I love the treatment and love you, but the parking is such a sh** show I don’t come as much as I would like because I just can’t go through looking for parking. Even the parkades were full, and this complaint was made after the sewer construction had moved past the downtown area.

While I’m excited about more people living in our downtown, I am concerned about the lack of parking, especially when the two new towers at River Market have lost four floors of parking due to water issues.

Like the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Unfortunately, we have gone way past that, but a new parking tower would alleviate some of parking issues before it is too late.  And, it would be one thriving business in our downtown for sure.
