Letter: Metro Vancouver is 'filthy' — but blame people, not pigeons

Clean up your own garbage before you worry about the birds, this resident says.

People live with pigeons happily elsewhere in the world, this writer says — like this shot from the Netherlands. People in Canada and the U.S. need to focus on cleaning up people's filth and stop blaming pigeons, she writes.

Editor:

As a European living in Canada, I'm absolutely disgusted with the horrible treatment of wildlife and animals in general.

Vancouver should start cleaning the city from human garbage; Metro Vancouver is the most filthy city we have lived in.

Please leave pigeons alone, and please educate people about human garbage. Please go to Lower Hume Park (near the Brunette River); there is a huge pile of human garbage. You constantly attack coyotes, geese, pigeons, etc., but the bigger problem is humans leaving piles of garbage all over Metro Vancouver.

I travel all over the world but never see so much hate against wildlife like the U.S.A. and Canada. We have had many visitors, and nobody complained about pigeon droppings but about how dirty Metro Vancouver is.

Please: first, people, clean human garbage after yourself, and then write about pigeon droppings.

People feed and live with pigeons and birds all over the world. Only the U.S.A. and Canada are full of hate. Metro Vancouver has rats, yes, because garbage is everywhere.

People, please, blame yourself first. I can show you how garbage spreads — beds, shopping carts, food, etc. etc. — and maybe instead of attacking pigeons you can start cleaning human trash.

Shame.
