A missing Chihuahua cross snatched near the New Westminster SkyTrain station last week has been reunited with his family.

Jackson, an 11-year-old Brussels Griffon/Chihuahua was taken Friday near the station at about 6 p.m., according to a New Westminster Police Department press release.

The small dog had been secured by a leash outside a store at 800 Carnarvon St. while his owners stepped into the store for a moment. By the time they returned, Jackson had been removed from his leash and was nowhere to be found, according to police.

Officers searched the area and obtained video surveillance footage showing a Caucasian woman, about 40 years old, leaving the area with a small dog in her arms.

Monday evening, the police department announced it had located Jackson in Vancouver and that he was safe. He was promptly returned to his family in New Westminster.

According to the New Westminster Police Department, officers are still investigating any criminal offences.

There’s no word on whether the dog was located in the possession of the woman seen in the surveillance footage or why Jackson was taken.

New Westminster police have not responded to the Record’s request for information.
