The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on the 10th Avenue border between New Westminster and Burnaby near Fifth Street.

Police say a motorcycle and passenger vehicle collided. It’s too early to say what caused the crash or whether speed was a factor, noted a press release from New Westminster Police.

10th Avenue was closed for several hours in both directions between Sixth Street and McBride Boulevard while New Westminster Police investigated.

“This is a very sad situation to report, and our Victim Assistance Unit has engaged those who are impacted by this tragedy,” said New Westminster police spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Scott in the release. “It’s too early on in the investigation to determine who’s at fault or what the cause of the collision is, but we’d like to remind both drivers and motorcyclists to slow down and drive responsibly.”

The motorcyclist’s identity has not been released. Police say he is from Vancouver.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
