New West’s best came a few rocks short from earning a world tour. The Sarah Daniels rink fell 9-5 to Nova Scotia’s team in last week’s 2016 Canadian junior women’s curling championship final in Stratford, Ont.

For a showdown for first place, Monday’s tilt between the Burnaby Central Wildcats and New Westminster Hyacks was a little under the radar.

In a back-and-forth shootout, the New Westminster Hyacks made full use of its free throws to defeat the Burnaby Central Wildcats 78-70 on Monday, moving one step closer to locking up third place in the Burnaby-New West senior boys basketball league.

The Douglas College Royals went over to Nanaimo last Saturday and did what no other PacWest women’s basketball team has done this year — won.

It didn’t start the way they had planned, but two Royal City Curling Club rinks are both in the hunt at the Scotties B.C. Women’s curling championships in Coquitlam.
