The New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association is in a frenzy about the upcoming field lacrosse season.

Since July 4, free Field Frenzy summer sessions have been being held every Tuesday night to give lacrosse-curious kids and experienced players a chance to get on the field and find out what field lacrosse is all about. They’ll continue on July 25, Aug. 1 and Aug. 8.

“All coaches are high-level, skilled instructors who are sure to get kids in the game,” said a notice about the sessions. “These sessions are welcoming, accessible and inclusive. We encourage players of all gender identities and LAX skill level from lacrosse curious to experienced to come play.”

On July 25, Will Malcolm (Panther City in the NLL and Senior Salmonbellies) and Noah Armitage (Senior Bellies) are coaches on the youth side and Ashlyn Dhandwar (Junior Women’s and committed college athlete) and Delaney Davidson (NCAA) are taking the lead on the girls’ side.

On Aug. 1, Anthony Courcelle from the Philadelphia Wings and New Westminster Senior A Salmonbellies) will be among the coaches on the youth side of things, while Summer Thomas and Ashlyn Dhandwar are coaching on the girls’ side.

The sessions are free; registration is encouraged, but not mandatory (it helps organizers plan that evening’s session).

Sessions (for youth field lacrosse and girls field lacrosse) are from 6 to 7 p.m. for U7 to U11 players and from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. for U13 to U19 players. Groups will be divided into new and existing players, and the format will be adjusted based on attendance.

Youth field attendees must wear a helmet (helmets aren’t worn in girl’s field lacrosse). Anyone with equipment is asked to bring it; organizers will have limited sticks for youth field sessions and sticks and goggles for the girl’s field sessions.

New players will have a chance to enter for a chance to win free registration for the 2023 season.
