A New West lacrosse player helped the University of Denver women’s team make history.

After going undefeated in their regular season, the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team reached the NCAA Championship Weekend for the first time in the program’s history. But on May 26, the Pioneers’ historic season ended when they fell 15-7 to the No. 1-ranked Northwestern Wildcats in the national semifinals.

Lauren Black, a 2021 graduate of New Westminster Secondary School, had 37 goals and seven assists in her sophomore year with the University of Denver.

In 2022, during her freshman year with the team, Black finished second on the team in all three scoring categories by recording 54 goals, 20 assists and 74 points – with her 74 points being the most by a freshman in a single season in school history.
