New Westminster police are appealing for witnesses and videos related to an alleged assault at NWSS on May 17, 2024.

New West police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed an alleged assault at New Westminster Secondary School earlier this month.

As previously reported by the Record, police attended NWSS about 11:20 a.m. on Friday, May 17 after receiving a call for service from school staff.

“Officers rushed to the school and located a youth who had been assaulted with a weapon,” said a May 29 news release from the police department.

According to the NWPD, the victim did not require the services of BC Emergency Health Services paramedics. After speaking with that youth and witnesses, officers located and arrested one adult and one youth.

“Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the assault to please reach out to investigators about what they saw,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in the May 29 news release. “Photos and videos of what took place would be helpful for investigators.”

According to the NWPD, the police investigation into this incident is ongoing and police are working with school administration and witnesses.

Anyone who has information related to this incident is asked to call 604-525-5411 and reference file 24-7937. If students or staff ever fear for their safety, they are asked to call 911.
