Catch an outdoor screening of the Super Mario Bros. Movie on Friday, Sept. 8., at the Westminster Pier Park.

The weekend promises a chance to spend a quality day with your pup, make use of the last few days of summer with an outdoor movie night and learn all about how we should care for pollinators which, whether we notice are not, are always caring for us.

Movie by the river

Start the weekend with a movie under the stars. Head to the Westminster Pier Park Friday night for an outdoor screening of the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

While there, get some photos snapped with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, and participate in a film trivia before you dive into a bag of popcorn and settle down for the animated adventure comedy film.

Live concert

Vancouver-based band Big City Germs, which shot to fame during the pandemic and more recently released a cover of Ukrainian resistance anthem Bayraktar (originally composed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as per the band's website), will have New Westies ring in the weekend with some high-energy music.

The night will also include performances by rock band Autonomous Apes and indie rock group from Los Angeles, Bitter Sweethearts.

The Interplay of Light

Check out the works of mural-styled stained glass artist Rob Freidman at a new show, The Interplay of Light.

Friedman has worked on major installations such as the Lutz Hoffschild in the Scotia Centre in Edmonton, Alta. — the largest stained glass in western Canada — among others. What you'll notice in all his pieces is a depth in detail that brings about a three-dimensional feel.
