Families interested in continuing online learning in New Westminster next year are being invited to an information session tonight (Wednesday, March 31).
The New Westminster school district is hosting the virtual session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The new online learning program will run through the district’s Hume Park Learning Centre, offering a teacher-led option for students in grades 2 to 8.
A district letter about the program notes teachers will share weekly learning plans outlining activities through the week, and students will be able to access structured learning content when it bests suit their schedules. Real-time class meetings and one-on-one conferences with the teacher will also be set up when needed.
The district notes parents and caregivers will be expected to work in partnership with teachers to carry out the learning at home, and all students will need regular access to a laptop or desktop computer and reliable internet.
If you’re unable to attend tonight’s online information session, you’ll be able to view a link to the meeting recording on the district’s website afterwards.
Families who decide they want to take part in the program will need to apply between April 1 at 9 a.m. and April 16 at 4 p.m. Placements will be confirmed by April 20 and must be accepted by April 23.
The program will run contingent on demand, and the district will make a final decision on the program by April 30. If the demand is there, the program will run through the 2021/22 school year.
