Two men have been charged in connection with a violent altercation in New Westminster last month.

The incident took place on Saturday, Oct. 15 in the 300 block of 12th Street. It’s alleged two men attacked and held a third man against his will for several hours. The victim suffered several injuries during the altercation, according to a press release from New Westminster police.

The victim was able to get away after his captors fled the scene, according to police. Officers were called to the scene around 5 p.m. and the victim was taken to hospital where he remained for several days, the release noted.

It’s unclear what incited the incident or what the suspects were after. New Westminster police wouldn’t comment as the matter is now before the courts.

New West police announced on Tuesday (today) that two men – Ahmed Al-lami of Burnaby and Sohrab Tajfirouzeh of West Vancouver – had been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, forcible confinement, extortion and uttering threats. Al-lami is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 14, while Tajfirouzeh is set to return on Nov. 10.
