Two Metro Vancouver locations of a longstanding chain restaurant are shutting down before the end of the year, including one at Vancouver's popular Kitsilano Beach.
The Boathouse White Rock and The Boathouse Kitsilano will both be closing on Sept. 21, 2025, as the leases for both restaurants expire, according to the COO of Boathouse, Shah Ghani.
"We are grateful for everyone that has made our time at these locations special, and are thankful to our dedicated employees for their hard work throughout the years," says Ghani in an email to V.I.A.
Boathouse Kitsilano, at 1305 Arbutus St. inside Kitsilano Beach Park, has been at the location since 2010, when it replaced Watermark.
The White Rock Boathouse, at 14935 Marine Dr, has been around for decades. The brand started in 1981 in Coal Harbour before moving to English Bay; both of those locations have closed but the brand expanded to other locations in the region.
Boathouse's two other Metro Vancouver locations, in Port Moody and New Westminster, will remain open.
"We are working to relocate our team members to our nearby Boathouse restaurants upon the closures,” writes Ghani.
While the Boathouse brand started in Vancouver, ownership has changed over the decades. It's currently owned by Landry's Inc., a multi-billion-dollar American corporation based in Houston, Texas.
Landry's also owns the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Golden Nugget Casinos, and Aquarium Restaurants (a chain of seafood restaurants surrounded by aquariums). Landry's owner, Tilman Feritta, also owns the Houston Rockets and was recently appointed by American President Donald Trump to be the ambassador to Italy.
