Three volunteers were praised by the City of Port Coquitlam last night, April 18, for making a difference in the community.
Mayor Brad West and city council named Jo-Ann Breden as the Volunteer of the Year while Mason Mattu, a Grade 12 student in the International Baccalaureate program at Port Moody Secondary and the president of Youth Leaders in Law, got the title of Future Leader - Youth Volunteer of the Year.
And John Saremba, who helps with the Burke Mountain Naturalists and is known for his work to conserve bat and bird habitats, got the Lifetime Volunteer accolade.
The trio, who received a personalized etched glass award, will see their names added to the Volunteer Honour Roll at city hall.
Sponsored in part by the Tri-City News, the 25th annual awards were handed out during National Volunteer Week at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, before more than 100 attendees.
Those nominated also received a commemorative pin and a certificate.
