Police have recovered a vehicle in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last week that killed a teenage girl who was walking along the highway just north of Duncan.

Leeann Joe, 17, was hit on the Trans-Canada Highway between Sherman and Green roads just before 10 p.m. on April 18.

Emergency crews found the teen dead at the scene.

For the past week, RCMP have been looking for a grey 2011-13 model Hyundai Elantra with damage on the front driver’s side.

On Friday, police said they had located the vehicle, which has undergone examination by the RCMP’s forensic section.

In a statement, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano thanked the public for their assistance. “Our officers are continuing to work tirelessly to advance the investigation.”

Police did not say whether they have a suspect in the hit and run.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.

Police are also seeking dashcam video from people who were driving in the area on April 18 from 9-9:45 p.m.
