Fraser River Discovery Centre is inviting community members to celebrate the season at Winter Discovery Days.

A variety of activities are taking place at Discovery Centre from Saturday, Dec. 23 until Sunday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.

“Every year we put on a celebration of the holiday season at the FRDC, and we’re happy to do so this year as part of Winter Discovery Days,” said Stephen Bruyneel, director of external relations and development. “We will have a range of festive, family-friendly fun that encourages how we might protect riverside ecosystems and craft seasonal gifts to spread some cheer.”

The upcoming Winter Discovery Days activities include:

  • Dec. 23 – Jan. 7: Folks are invited to create a drawing of their winter wish – and it may be turned into a light display in the FRDC’s front window; drop in for a seasonal tale and an activity during the daily Storytime from 1 to 3 p.m.; and delve into the “subnivean secrets” of life under the snow with self-guided activities throughout the building.
  • Dec. 23 to Dec. 31: Did you know that the temperature has a big impact on how some species get around? This week, you’ll be able to test your ability to “adapt” to different scenarios to see how you fare.
  • Jan. 2 to 7: Learn how coniferous (evergreen) trees are able to survive temperature changes at this time of year and what all those deciduous species are up to!

Fraser River Discovery Centre, located at 788 Quayside Dr., is closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Fraser River Discovery Centre provides a variety of exhibits and programs related to various aspects of the Fraser River.
