A photographer’s efforts to get a great shot caused distress for an area resident and prompted a police response.
The New Westminster Police Department took to Twitter on Tuesday voice concerns about an incident that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 18. The tweet included a photo of a person, perched atop a crane at a local construction site, taking a photograph.
“This happened on Sunday, and it’s not okay. This person’s irresponsible actions put themselves at significant risk,” tweeted the NWPD. “The observant resident was distressed at this sight and called 911 out of concern for this person’s safety.”
The Record reached out to the New Westminster Police Department for additional information about the incident. Police report that the person was spotted on a construction site in the 600 block of Carnarvon Street at about 4 p.m. on Dec. 18.
“Police responded to the area but were unable to locate the person seen on top of the crane,” said NWPD media spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “It is believed this person was taking photos from the crane based off what witnesses described to police. If we could speak to this individual we’d ask that this they never do this again as it is dangerous, trespassing, and ties up emergency resources.”
