Fraser River Middle School initiated a “lockdown and hold-and-secure” on Tuesday afternoon out of an abundance of caution.
On the afternoon of Oct. 18, Fraser River Middle School principal Jennifer Harrison contacted families from the school to let them know that the school had initiated “a lockdown and hold-and-secure” in the afternoon. The school is located at the corner of Eighth Street and Queens Avenue.
“There was a disturbance in the neighbourhood, and this was a temporary measure out of an abundance of caution to keep everyone safe,” she said in an email sent to families on Tuesday afternoon. “The disturbance has since been resolved and learning is continuing as normal.”
NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom said police officers “responded to a potential threat” near Fraser River Middle School after receiving a call from staff.
“Our patrol members attended and after some time, they determined there was no threat present to students or staff,” Thom said in an email to the Record. “The lockdown was out of an abundance of caution.”
