Did you lose some cash in downtown New West? If so, you may be in luck.

The New Westminster Police Department is reporting that an upstanding citizen called police on Monday, Jan. 10 to report that he had found a “notable amount” of Canadian currency scattered on the sidewalk on Columbia Street in downtown New Westminster. The NWPD would like to return the money to its rightful owner.

“We’ve had success in the past in locating the owners of money found by good Samaritans,” NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release. “We’re hoping to find whose money this is. If you were in the downtown area yesterday, and in possession of some cash, please check to ensure you haven’t lost it.”

New West police investigators will be speaking with anyone who claims the money is theirs and will be asking where they believe they lost the money and what specific kinds of bills were lost.

Police have thanked the honest citizen who came forward with the found money.

If you lost money in the downtown area of New Westminster, you’re asked to file an online police report or call 604-525-5411.
