A Brow of the Hill residence was behind yellow tape on Sunday morning after an early-morning shooting on 12th Street.

The New Westminster Police Department received a report about shots fired in the 400 block of 12th Street about 5 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2.

“Members responded to the scene and confirmed that shots had been fired at a residence,” said a NWPD press release. “The occupants of the home were inside at the time of the shooting, and fortunately no one was injured.”

At this point in the investigation, police believe this is a targeted shooting and say there is no increased risk to the public.

The NWPD’s major crime unit is leading this investigation, with support from the forensic identification section and other units.  Officers processed the scene, canvassed for CCTV footage and interviewed witnesses.

“Dash-cam footage of this area from approximately 4:30 a.m. would be of interest to the major crime unit,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “Gun violence is extremely concerning for both police and residents of this city. Our major crime unit is working diligently on finding those responsible.”

Any witnesses who have information about this incident and haven’t spoken to the police are asked to call major crime unit investigators at 604-529-2536.
