New West police are searching for a suspect in an early-morning bear spray assault on Carnarvon Street.

New Westminster police are seeking witnesses to an early-morning bear spray assault in downtown.

New West police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Carnarvon Street at about 4:45 a.m. on Monday, March 6, after someone was allegedly assaulted by a suspect using bear spray. Officers with the New Westminster Police Department searched the area for someone matching the suspect’s description, could not locate the suspect.

“We believe the suspect and the victim are not known to one another,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We believe there were witnesses who have not yet come forward.”

According to a NWPD press release, officers provided aid to the victim.

Police are now canvassing the area for CCTV footage and asking anyone who witnessed this assault and has not yet spoken to police to reach out to the police department to share what they saw.

The suspect is described as a tall Caucasian man.
