New West police are seeking witnesses who can help with an assault and robbery investigation.

New Westminster police are seeking additional witnesses who may be able to help identify two men who allegedly assaulted a person who was on his way to SkyTrain.

New West police say the victim was walking towards the New Westminster SkyTrain station at about 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 when he was punched in the stomach and knocked to the ground by two men he didn’t know. One of the suspects allegedly robbed the man of his headphones before both suspects fled the area.

The NWPD is asking for additional witnesses to come forward if they have information about the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Blackie and Carnarvon streets.

“At this time officers are canvassing the area for CCTV footage of the suspects,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “This is a high-traffic area with the mall and nearby transit centre. We’re hopeful that someone in the area witnessed the robbery and is willing to provide this information to investigators.”

Police say the first suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, South Asian in appearance and standing approximately 5’11” tall. He had a thin pencil moustache and a goatee and he was wearing black coveralls with green reflective tape down the chest.

The second suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 40 years of age, a slim build. He had a longer beard, brown hair with grey streaks, and was wearing orange and red coveralls.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has CCTV footage is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
