New West committed to Period Promise initiative

Council in brief
Menstruation file
New Westminster is committed to making menstrual products free in local facilities.

New Westminster hasn’t forgotten about its promise to provide free menstrual products.

In November 2019, council directed staff to implement a six-month pilot program to install dispensers in several civic buildings in the spring of 2020. The plan was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s now getting back on track.

The pilot program will start this month at Queensborough and Centennial community centres, the youth centre, the main branch of the New Westminster Public Library, and the restrooms a Westminster Pier and Quayside parks.

“The City of New Westminster’s Period Promise launch coincides with the official United Way Period Promise campaign, which runs until June 3, 2021,” said a report to council. “At the end of the six-month pilot, staff will report back to council on the results and impacts of the pilot program.”
