Burnaby RCMP is hosting a new event at the Metrotown mall next week for parents who want to make sure their car seats and boosters are installed properly.

If you’re not sure your kids’ car seat or booster is installed properly, why not let Burnaby Mounties help?

Next Tuesday, Burnaby RCMP is hosting a first-of-its-kind event where certified child passenger safety educators, including police officers from Burnaby and Richmond, will be on hand to check and even help install car seats and boosters.

“Car and booster seats are an important part of road safety, protecting vulnerable children, and the new school year is a perfect time to ensure the car seat and booster seat in your vehicle is properly installed, as they can be complicated to set up,” Burnaby RCMP Const. Kevin Connolly said in a news release.

Organizers are encouraging families to bring their current car seat or booster (with its manual) to the event along with their kids.

“This will allow officers to check that the seat is installed correctly with the child properly seated and strapped in,” Connolly said. “It will also allow us to ensure the current car seat or booster seat is the correct one for the child.”

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Metropolis at Metrotown parking lot, but Burnaby RCMP is asking participants to pre-book appointments.
