The New Westminster school district is inviting families in to find out more about its offerings.
SD40 is hosting its Discover New Westminster Schools evening on Tuesday, Jan. 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. at New Westminster Secondary School.
Whether you’re a middle-school parent wondering what lies ahead for your soon-to-be-high-schooler, or whether you’re interested in finding out more about programs of choice, there’s a chance to get to know more about what New Westminster schools offer.
The evening will start with a formal welcome and presentation from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the NWSS gym.
Between 7 and 8:30 p.m., elementary and middle school families and community members can browse information booths in the Grand Commons.
At the same time, students can get a closer look at high school course planning, with separate sessions for students entering grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Among the information booths, families will be able to learn more about:
- what’s happening at the Welcome and Wellness Centres;
- programs of choice across the district, including French immersion, Montessori, IB and Home Learners;
- Indigenous education;
- inclusive education supports for students;
- diversity, inclusion and SOGI work in the district;
- what’s new in the arts, trades training, ADST and early learning programs.
It’s all free and open to anyone who’s interested, but anyone who wants to attend is asked to RSVP online to ensure there’s enough seating for all.
There will also be a series of online information meetings this week for programs of choice, with Teams meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 12 for those who want to learn more. Wednesday will see sessions on French immersion and international baccalaureate programs, while Thursday will feature Montessori, career and trades, and Home Learners.
