If you don’t have cable or a sports streaming service and want to watch the Vancouver Canucks in playoff action, Port Coquitlam has the answer.

For Game 5 tonight, April 30, against the Nashville Predators in their first-round series of which the ‘Nucks are up 3–1, the municipality has a big projector screen up at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) for fans to cheer on the local team.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

There is no admission charge to watch the games in the facility’s concession area, and playoff concession combos will be served for a reasonable price:

  • $9 for a hot dog, popcorn and drink
  • $14 for nachos and a beer (for 19+ customers)

As well, the city will award a prize to attendees after the first period.

If you miss tonight’s event, viewing parties will also be held for every post-season game — as long as the Canucks are in contention for the Stanley Cup.

Games 6 and 7, if needed, are scheduled for Friday, May 3, and Sunday, May 5.

Meanwhile, PoCo’s love for the Canucks is also reflected at city hall where municipal staff are lighting up the Shaughnessy Street building in the hockey team’s colours during the playoffs.

There are no free viewing parties tonight organized by the cities of Coquitlam and Port Moody; however, the screens will be on for games in pubs and bars, including:

Still, the City of Coquitlam said if there is a Game 6 on Friday, May 3, it will open the spectator seating and the concourse in Arena 1 at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) so residents can watch the game via the video board. The concession will be open but there will not be alcohol sales.
