Tim Horton's Smile Cookie campaign is on till May 7

Add a ‘smile cookie’ to your order of coffee at your next Tim Hortons jaunt — because when you buy the hand-decorated chocolate-chunk cookie, you support the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.

As per a press release, all of the proceeds from the smile cookies sold till Sunday, May 7, from select Tim Hortons locations — including four in New West — will go towards B.C. Children’s Hospital.

The participating New West locations are at 524 Sixth St., 780 Sixth St., 805 Boyd St. and 800 Carnarvon St.

The annual Smile Cookie campaign was first introduced in 1996 to raise funds for Hamilton Children’s Hospital in Ontario. Over the years, it has grown to support 600 charities and community groups — hospitals, community care organizations, food banks and schools — across Canada, according to the release.

Last year, the campaign raised more than $167,000 for B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation; this year, it remains to be seen how much the 125 Tim Hortons stores across Metro Vancouver (out of the more than 5,400 restaurants worldwide) will help bring in for the organization.

“Each year, B.C. Children’s Hospital provides specialized care to more than 138,000 kids throughout the province,” said Rita Thodos, executive vice-president, Philanthropy at B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“Proceeds raised from campaigns like Smile Cookie go directly towards ground-breaking research, state-of-the-art technology, and programs that support clinical care, to ensure that sick and injured children across B.C. receive the best care possible,” she added.

Each smile cookie costs $1.50 and can be bought in person from a Tim Hortons restaurant or via a delivery app.
